A group of tweeps including myself have suggested the Sunday Twitter Challenge. To be successful at this challenge you do the following:

    1. Do not get on Twitter, do not tweet on Sunday.

    2. Use the time you would normally spend on Twitter to do things that further God’s kingdom:

Spend time in God’s Word or reading books that expound it
      Spend time building family relationships
Spend communal time in prayer, worship and learning (church)

Add a comment to this post to sign up, then sometime next week add another comment to share how God used the time to build you and yours up.

    1. I’m officially taking Sunday off from Twitter, email and all distractions that pull me away from God. I’m going to have my Large Print Life Application Bible to sustain me and nourish me. I’ll read Max Lucado’s book Fearless and I’ll spend time with my husband and kids.

I’ll be back Monday to see my friends in Twitterville!!

    2. ok, I accept the challenge, especially since I was already feeling the Lord tugging me in that direction. I’m new on Twitter (just a few weeks – I thought I’d try it for a month and see if it was beneficial – so it’s been a bit of a time-element in this learning-curve season). I’ll look forward to my Sabbath rest tomorrow. Thanks for the encouragement. I’ll come back Monday to report.

    3. What a great idea. I will try super super super hard tomorrow. I’m already going to push myself to get to church tomorrow morning- I haven’t been for several weeks due to chronic insomnia and severe anxiety. We can do this, though!

    4. Hey Richard, I think the idea is great, however, what about those of us who tweet encouragments 2 others, not all day, but whenever prompted by the Lord? On the hours that those who accept your challenge back away there are ones who still need the light of God’s word in their lives. I notice that most of the people who follow me are ones that I do not follow, because some seem to be porn sites, but they still look forward to recieving that word. I might take you up at a later time when you challenge again, but for now when prompted I will tweet the word. btw I am kinda new to all of this, so you all may know much better than I.

    5. Pastors will need to take a different day of rest. Work 6, take one day of rest- it’s in the Bible.
This will be a sign between me & U for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the LORD, who makes you holy. Exodus 31:13
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Exodus 20:8 (Is Twitter Holy?)
Six days you are to gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will not be any. (Twitter?) Exodus 16:26

    6. Yes! and Facebook too.
      Actually…anything computer & tv =)

    7. Excellent point, Gina, no Facebook. Great point Christine, pastors will need to do Mondays.

    8. Lily, you will appreciate Twitter more if you take a break.

    9. I am on twitter daily so I will take Sunday off and spend time in prayer and God’s word instead on twitter.

    10. I will take the Sunday challenge, I will not go on twitter at all. I will spend the time praying and reading the word with my family!

    12. I am joining the Twitter Sunday Challenge! It will be great! I have been fasting from electronics most evenings lately. This all day Sunday thing will be fun. It will remind me that I won’t die if I don’t know what is going on in everybodies lives for 1 day! :)

I will pray and relax. I do have to get on the computer though…I have to do LivePrayer in the evening!!

    13. I am officially joining the Twitter Sunday Challenge. In the spirit of the challenge, my husband and I have agreed to keep the computer entirely off to avoid any temptations to tweet or waste time on other sites (like Facebook, email, blogging, anything Google, anything that could be rationalized as useful…) while avoiding Twitter. We intend to enjoy the time with our little ones and spend some extra time reading our Bibles and discussing biblical concepts once they’re asleep.

    14. Thanks to all and may God uses this time. Helen, however God leads is okay with this group.

    16. For the second weekend in a row, I locked up my computer Sat. night and did not unlock it until Monday morning. Admittedly, it was refreshing and I was re-energized after an enjoyable day with my family. For me it felt like a “food fast” expect my nourishment was coming from Twitter. On this day of fasting, each time I had a Twitter thought,, I changed it to a God thought and spent time in conversation with him. I realize that I’ve been working 7 days a week since I was 16 years old and got my first job in retail. After 10 years working every Sunday at Macys, I then sold real estate for 15 years and worked every Sunday. Today I still continue this habit when I’m on the computer 7 days a week and never enjoy a day off. God revealed this to me and helped me understand that rest is not laziness. I am thankful for my day of rest.

    17. My time off Twitter was spent in not one but two church services, a normal service and a Sunday evening “missions” service. I spent a lot of time with my eyes closed listening for God. I spent more time with Laurie (MrsMC) and my daughter Samantha.

The most memorable event of the day happened after Sam got angry with me and then later apologized and explained that she felt her own irresponsibility was causing her to fail at a number of things and that’s what she was expressing in her anger. I assured her that I loved her and understood and that she was special for having the ability to analyze herself so deeply. It was a great Twitter Fast moment.

    18. Didn’t turn on the computer – all Sunday – no twitter, facebook, email check, web work, or ministry updates. Spent the day in worship & prayer, two church services, reading a book outloud to the kids, reading a devotional, & resting. Thanks for the encouragement.

    19. I’m in. After church mcProdigal will help me paint the kitchen!!!

    20. I am definitely signed up for this Sunday! My husband is delighted with the idea. :) I will report back how it goes. It won’t be easy, I am supposed to be hearing from a potential client in Australia any minute…but will stay off! And report back.

    21. I’ve been helping paint the kitchen. Woohoo!

    22. One of my friends recently said “IF Facebook and Twitter were there during Christ’s time, He definitely could/would have used them”.

I totally agree with that statement.

However, if one use twitter for God, e.g. @ViralBible, @SollyM (myself – tweet biblical verses), etc. why not spread the Word? Otherwise I take your challenge.

Another thing is the Adventists. I am an Adventist and adhere to Saturday as a holy day. Just a thought.

    23. hmmn… this seems to be a tough challenge… but I think I’m up for it. :D {{giggles}} I’m a bit excited for this one… It seemed like this one was an old challenge but I want to try anyways. :D
